Pathway to Potential Pathway to Potential  Social Investment Windsor Essex

Since its creation in 2009, the City of Windsor's poverty reduction strategy, Pathway to Potential, has targeted four key areas to assist low-income individuals and families in Windsor and Essex County: Community programs for low-income individuals and families; Discounted recreation programs in the city and county; Discounted bus transportation through Transit Windsor's Affordable Pass Program (APP); and Research and communication initiatives which raise awareness of the issues related to poverty and the need for everyone to share in the solutions. In January 2017, Windsor City Council approved the creation of a comprehensive plan intended to "change the conversation" away from poverty reduction and towards making social investments in our residents, our neighborhoods and our community. This plan builds on existing and new resources and supports initiatives led by the City of Windsor and community partners, with a goal to make a difference in the lives of all residents. Areas of focus include: Provision of foundational services; Support for social investment initiatives led by community partners; Enhancing the role of Windsor City Council to promote social investment campaign; Promotion of social investments throughout the Corporation of the City of Windsor; Provision of subsidized recreational programs in Windsor and throughout Essex County; Provision of subsidized transportation through Transit Windsor - Affordable Pass Program (APP); Investment in neighborhoods; An enhanced communication campaign to raise awareness and promote social investment programs available for residents; and Creation of a new data collection strategy based on outcome measures and best practices.

Jumpstart

Information can be found at :

 https://jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/pages/individual-child-grants

A kid’s life can be enriched through physical activity but that doesn’t mean it comes without a cost. And sometimes families need a little help to get their kids involved. For thousands of Canadian families, Jumpstart is the help they need to get into the game.

APPLICATION PROCESS OVERVIEW

When families need a little financial boost to get kids involved in a sport, dance team or other active program, they need to fill out an application. This needs to be done before the fees are due, as the money goes right to the organization. Applications for assistance can typically be submitted from January 15 to November 1; with the goal for funding to be equitably distributed over Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter activities.  Your family meets our financial need requirements and your kid is registered, but what about the skates/cleats/racquets/gloves/helmets/uniforms they need to play?  Not to worry.  Jumpstart has you covered. The application asks for equipment details. Funds can also be provided for adaptive equipment to help kids with special needs.  If you have additional questions, call 1-844-YES-PLAY.

WANT TO APPLY?

If you are a parent or guardian, you can apply for funding on behalf of your child/children by clicking on the Start Application button below. All information provided will be kept confidential.  Before you start, we ask that you first be able to answer “Yes” to the following questions:

• Is the child on whose behalf you are applying between the ages of 4-18?

• Is the funding that you require for a program involving a sport or physical activity?

• Is your family in a demographic which would be considered in financial need (as defined by Government guidelines)?
Click here to check if you meet the financial need criteria.

If you can answer “Yes” to all 3 questions, then you will need to provide the following information as part of the application process.

Be sure to have them handy once you click on the Start Application button:

• Your contact information (name, postal code, telephone number and email address)

• The first name, last name, gender and date of birth of your child.

• The details of the sport or physical activity in which your child would like to participate.

• The amount that you are requesting from Jumpstart.

• The name of the non-profit/charitable/service organization (Payee) running the sport or physical activity program.  Funds or equipment are provided directly to the Payee on behalf of the qualifying youth or child.

•  Proof of financial need. Any one of the following will suffice as proof of financial need—income assessment, prior year T4 statement or three consecutive pay stubs.

Instructions will be provided in the application on how to upload a copy of these documents. Only one sport or activity is covered for each application. Children can be funded for successive seasons in an activity up to a maximum of $300 per activity; subject to Chapter discretion and/or local demands. The annual maximum is $600; again, subject to Chapter discretion and/or local demands.

Jumpstart Funding Criteria

ELIGIBILITY

How do we determine if a family requires our help? Families must meet financial need criteria in order to qualify for Jumpstart funding. Jumpstart recommends following Revenue Canada’s Low Income Cut-offs (LICOs) which are based on a family’s size, the size of their community and the total family unit income (before tax).
